VJs embedded in 2008 campaigns

Published by peter at 5:38 pm under news, videojournalists

Center for Citizen media reports that the National Journal Group and NBC News will embed VJs with presidential campaigns:

dedicated video-journalists, each of whom will serve as their own mobile campaign bureaus (reporter, producer, cameraperson and blogger), armed with the latest technology for both video and text. The “Decision 2008” campaign reporters will also provide viewers and readers with behind-the-scenes coverage and unprecedented insider access to news and information about the candidates and their top advisors.

Difficult to get too excited after the fiasco of embedded journalists in Iraq.

Just wondering why you consider embedded jornalists a fiasco in Iraq. We won a Spot News Putlitzer with two of ours, seemed to work pretty well.

Randy I did not mean to imply any failing on the part of the journalists embedded in Iraq. They covered their assignments professionally and courageously. The fault lies higher up the chain of command.

It is becoming increasingly and embarrassingly apparent that despite all the award-winning coverage the American public remained largely unaware of what was really happening in Iraq.

Yesterday the prestigious Samuel Johnson non-fiction prize was awarded to Rajiv Chandrasekaran for his account of life inside Iraq’s Green Zone. It is troubling that so much of the information it contains should be largely unknown years after the fact.

That makes sense, Peter. I get the point now.
