Video that doesn’t work?
“Parents hoping to raise a baby Einstein by using infant educational videos may create a baby Homer Simpson instead, according to a new study released Tuesday in the Journal of Pediatrics.
The researchers found that for every hour per day spent watching baby DVDs and videos, infants understood an average of six to eight fewer words than babies who didn’t watch them”. denverpost.com
I am not a proponent of TV or video in early childhood education. But is it really helpful to assess the validity of an educational tool solely on the number of new words it teaches?
The reason that millions of children in the US attend school dosed with Ritalin has nothing to do with deficiencies in vocabulary.
